The UPTOWN CLAY Summer Workshops are designed to encourage young artists that want to express their creativity through clay.
Ms. Carmen will start with a demonstration and a short lesson, so students understand the context and history behind some of these ancient techniques still used in present time.
Students will be encouraged to sketch out their designs before starting a project to use as a guide. Students will then create their own version of the project or create their own project that utilizes the newly obtained techniques.
Students will work on 1 to 2 projects at the same time to allow sufficient drying time to take place. That will allow our artists to apply appropriate techniques at specific stages of their projects without compromising the structure and design of their pieces.
Each week our young artists will paint their pieces with underglazes which will result in about 2 to 4 final art pieces per week. The final number depends on the complexity of the projects and pieces the young artists want to focus on.
Throughout the class Ms. Carmen will advise, answer questions, and help if needed.
Young artists will find joy in creating beautiful pieces that represent who they are; whether it’s their first time handling clay, or have years of experience.
After each camp, the staff at the studio will fire the pieces and the final pieces will be ready to pick up in 2-3 weeks.
